BERGKAMEN VISIT 2002.
Saturday 13.10.02. Guests
arrived in Dewsbury at approx 7.45pm.
Some amendments made to the prepared accommodation
list due to requests by visiting
Girls paired with companions on the coach. Eventually
host families and guests were paired off and departed for home, refreshments
and a good nights sleep.
Sunday 13.10.02. "Get to know your guest day." Adult
Guests and host families met in Batley to visit local retail outlets and then
to the Plough Inn, Mirfield for lunch.
Younger visitors accompanied host families to other venues of
interest. At 4.40pm. The groups
met at Dewsbury sports Centre for a fun swim with inflatable pool equipment
etc. Sunday evening, a welcome
disco held at Shawcross Boys Club.
Monday 14.10.02. Visit to Magna
Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham followed by a visit to Meadowhall Shopping
Centre. Evening entertainment provided by host families.
Tuesday 15.10.02. Full day outing to Flamingoland Theme Park and Zoo.
Despite a depressing weather forecast, the day remained mostly fine and the
youngsters enjoyed the day. Visited McArthur Glen Outlet Centre, York on the
return journey. Evening entertainment provided by host families.
Wednesday 16.10.02.
Visit to The Deep Hull. Lunchtime
meal for all at Ye Old White Hart Inn and Two/three hours to explore Hull
Centre before spending the evening at Hull fair. Back to Dewsbury for 9.30pm.
Thursday 17.10.02.
Visit to the Royal Armouries, Leeds followed by 10 pin bowling at the
Hollywood Bowl and a light snack for all. With some three hours to go before
the swimming Gala at Dewsbury, called in at the White Rose Shopping Centre on
the way back to Dewsbury.
In the evening, the annual inter-club swimming
competition was won by Tura Bergkamen. The day was rounded off at the Cracken
Edge Inn, who kindly provided refreshments.
Friday 18.10.02. Day outing to
Lincoln, once again the weather was kind and a good day
Was
enjoyed by all. In the evening
farewell disco was held at Shaw Cross Boys Club where the Deputy Mayor of
Kirklees and her Consort presented the various trophies and addressed the
gathering, expressing the hope that all present had enjoyed visit and noting
that it was the 21st exchange.
Saturday 19.10.02.
Early departure of guests, smiles, hugs and tears before the coach departed at
5.00am.
Once again the visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all –
here’s to the next time!
